Look what I found in Chattanooga!

No, this isn't the British countryside. It's Chattanooga. I wish I could explain this photo, but I don't know what this phone booth from merry ole England is doing in Chattanooga. I pass it on my way to work. It appeared one day by the side of the road. The only indication that it might belong to someone is a small note that says "willful destruction of this property could lead to prosecution."

kudzu curse

We have lots of kudzu around here and it can really be invasive. It takes over whole hillsides. I took this picture today because the kudzu is still dormant from winter. Once it turns green it wouldn't show up as well in a picture.

Street hockey

I guess this is more like "driveway" hockey. I don't know if street hockey is popular in other parts of the country/world. Ice hockey was extremely popular when we lived in the northeast, but not so much in the south--probably lack of natural ice in the winter.

Going around in circles

This little round building is our local branch of the Chattanooga Bicentennial Library. It's quite a distinctive building with its blue roof. I hadn't really thought too much about it until I started looking for things to take photos of, and then it really jumped out at me.

Not exactly a flower market....

I love the pictures of the beautiful flower markets in Paris and other cities. We don't have too many of those in Chattanooga, but we do have...Walmart! I took this photo of the plants for sale in the garden center of my nearby Walmart. A man I used to work with said a choral group visiting from New York City had performed at his church and his wife was in charge of showing them around Chattanooga while they were here. She asked them where they most wanted to go and they all said, "Walmart!"

Sense of humor

I saw this sign on my way to work this morning and had to take a picture. I'm sure this isn't the first church to use this particular message on their sign, but I thought it was funny. Nice to know that some churches have a sense of humor!

Spider Web

I found this huge spider web on my porch. It was difficult getting the camera positioned just right so that the web would show up in the picture. You may have to click on the photo to enlarge it to see the web clearly--I'm not sure. I will have to get the photo posted first to see. I just hope I don't run into the spider that made such a large web!

View from my office

This is the view from my office window. I think I'm pretty lucky that I not only have a window but a nice view while I'm working.

Dogwoods

The dogwoods are in full bloom. I think they are so pretty. This picture was taken in the building lot across the street from my house. They're clearing the lot now for a new house but it looks like they've left most of the dogwoods standing. I hope so although I won't be able to see them as much once the house gets built.

Here's a shot of the Incline Railway track that goes up Lookout Mountain. The "Incline", as it's called, opened on November 16, 1895 and goes up the steepest part of the mountain, boasting a 72.7% incline a one point.

Where'd The Ball Go?

Here are some school kids playing a round of miniature golf at Sir Gooney's Family Fun Center in Chattanooga. Sir Gooney's has miniature golf, go-karts, laser tag and bumper boats. This picture seemed appropriate because of the miniature golf connection to Chattanooga. In 1927, Garnet Carter of Lookout Mountain, Chattanooga patented Tom Thumb Golf and in 1930, the First National Ton Thumb Open Miniature Golf Tournament was played on Lookout Mountain.
