I took this picture from the mezzanine looking down on the food court at the mall.

And they take Visa!

I think I may have found the weapons of mass destruction everyone has been searching for!
Actually, it's a display outside of an Army Surplus Store I pass by on my way to work.

A glimpse of our weather

I took this photo this morning at the post office. The windows are not dirty-that discoloration is really condensation. That gives you an idea of our weather lately.

Slow and steady wins the race

I can't take credit for this photo. The youth director at the church where I work sent it to me. He said it was in the church parking lot the other night when the youth were playing basketball.

Play area

I took this picture at a local mall. There's a play area in the middle for kids to let off a little steam.

Cone flowers

In celebration of finally getting some rain, I chose to photograph some more of the flowers I have in my yard. We have not had a drop of rain since some time in May and everyone's lawn looks and sounds the same--brown and crunchy when walked on. The rain we had last night and this morning isn't really enough to matter a whole lot but I'll take what I can get.

Parking lot carnival

I took this picture as they were setting up a carnival midway in the parking lot at the mall where my son works. It's one of those traveling shows and it comes every summer.

Got milk?

At Antigua Daily Photo Rudy showed us the outside of a bakery. I decided to go in and buy some. Well, not from the bakery in Antigua but a bakery here in Chattanooga. They are delicious with a glass of milk or a cup of hot tea.

Bungee jumping

I took this picture at the mall. They have a bungee jumping area set up in the middle of the mall and this kid was having a blast.

Dixie BBQ

Barbeque is a southern tradition. I had never even had it until we moved to the southern U.S. To put it simply, it's shredded pork mixed with a spicy BBQ sauce and served on a bun. I'm sure there's more to it and people have their own secret sauces but that's it in it's most basic form. Some people (me included) also add cole slaw to the bun with the meat and sauce. A lot of the BBQ places around Chattanooga look similar to this one. I don't know how the food is at this place (or any of the others scattered around) because I don't care for BBQ. I'll eat it if it's free but I don't go out of my way to buy it. If there's a function going on in Chattanooga and there's free food you can pretty much bet it will be BBQ!

Hawaiian shaved ice truck

I pass by this truck when I take my son to work. The colorful truck is very inviting and I would like to try some but it seems it is never open at a convenient time for me. If I try it I will have to take a picture and post it. Of course I would love to have the real thing in Hawaii, but until then I can enjoy a daily photo from Hawaii here.

What will they think of next?

Marie at Alexandria Daily Photo isn't the only one going to the dogs. Can you believe this? Doggie strollers--although I guess you could put cats or rabbits or whatever would fit into them. I haven't seen any being used yet but if I do, I hope I have my camera with me.

Remember to wash behind your ears

Remember how Mom always said to wash behind your ears? This cat is getting some help from her sister. (No, these aren't mine. They belong to a neighbor)

To celebrate 100th Daily Photo Blog

What has this statue got to do with celebrating the 100th DP Blog? Well, Greenville Daily Photo proposed that we lift our glass in a toast for this occasion and what's better than our very own Tennessee Sour Mash Whiskey aka Jack Daniels. This statue is of Jack Daniels. I took this picture when we toured the Jack Daniels Distillery in Lynchberg.

Personally I don't drink whiskey (don't like the taste) but I can highly recommend taking the tour. It was great fun! At the end of the tour you get...a lemonade. The distillery is located in one of Tennessee's dry counties, meaning no liquor can be sold. But, the state legislature did make an exception for the distillery and they are allowed to sell a commemorative bottle after the tour. But not on Sunday which, much to my husband's chagrin, is when we took the tour.

You can get more info at Jack Daniels web page.

As seen at Walmart

I stopped at Walmart on my way home from work today and I saw this bus in the parking lot. I snapped a quick picture but I was in a hurry so I thought I'd check it out more when I came out of the store. I was only in there about 10 minutes but when I came back out the bus was gone so I don't have a better picture.

But I did find this information at Wikipedia.

Yung Joc
(born Jasiel Robinson in 1983) is a rapper from the College Park section of Atlanta, Georgia. Yung Joc has gained popularity from his first single "It's Goin' Down", produced by Nitti (not to be confused with pop-rapper Nitty), as the "It's Goin' Down" music video states in its title. The lead-off single was a huge success in America. Though critically-smited, the single made its way into the American top forty and was an extremely heavily-downloaded tune on iTunes.

The 23-year-old is signed to Bad Boy South and Block Entertainment. His debut album, entitled New Joc City, was released on June 6, 2006.

Joc is noted as the first artist in two years (since Mase released Welcome Back) to have a top forty U.S. hit on Bad Boy Records. In addition to being the latest sensation of Bad Boy South and Block Ent, Young Joc has become president of Mastermind Music, a record label begun by himself and friend Chino Dollar.

Canna lilies

Santy had a picture of flowers on Jakarta Daily Photo on Tuesday that looked similar to mine. I have these growing on the side of my house. I thought I'd post this picture and we could compare.

The mimosa trees are blooming right now. I think they are such pretty trees.

Bell South Park Trolley

This is the Bell South Park Trolley. Free parking is available to people attending the Lookouts baseball games but the lot is not near the ballpark so free trolley service is provided.

Busy as a bee

I was hoping to take some butterfly pictures today but bumblebees were the only ones hanging out at the butterfly bushes. They seem to like them and my lantana plants as much as the butterflies.

1927 Ford Model T

This is a beautifully restored 1927 Model T. The last year Ford produced the Model T. The man who owns it and restored it said restoring antique autos is his passion. He said he's planning a vacation trip with this one and will travel approximately 1700 miles. I asked him about gas mileage with it and he said it wasn't great but not bad, about 18-20 miles per gallon. He said he restores them and drives them for a while then sells them and moves on to another project. He said he's also restoring a 1947 Ford pickup and will also be restoring a British Ford touring car that he's really excited about. I thought it was really beautiful and I hope you enjoy the picture.

Creating a new neighborhood

I took this picture of the new subdivision that is going to be built just down the road from ours. It's the spot you can see in yesterday's photo with the small arrow.

The view from Big Ridge

Here's the second picture in my series. Ths big arrow shows our subdivision as seen from the house on Big Ridge in yesterday's picture. The small arrow shows where they are clearing land for a new subdivision.

View from the top

I am going to be posting a series of pictures over the next couple of days. I took this pictrure from my front yard. The arrow is pointing to a house we can see from ours. That house is located on what is called "Big Ridge". That particular house is 4 miles from our house as the crow flies. Of course the distance is much greater traveling over the road. Our house is located on a much smaller, nameless ridge with what is known as "Middle Valley" in between the two houses. Since we can see this house from ours, my husband and I took a ride to find that house to see if we could see ours. We could see our subdivision (binocculars are needed to see the actual house) plus the spot they've been clearing for a new subdivision.

Tomorrow I'll post the picture that shows our subdivision and then the spot they've been clearing. Not as nice of a tour as Nuno's stairway tour on his Porto Daily Photo. If you haven't taken Nuno's stairway tour you should. It's wonderful!

Bell South Park

Chattanooga has its own Minor League baseball team called the Chattanooga Lookouts and this is where they play-Bell South Park. They're a Double A team for the Cincinnati Reds. The Lookouts appeared in a music video for the singing group Alabama for their song about baseball "Cheap Seats". The new ballpark opened in 2000 but before that the Lookouts played at Engel Stadium. My family attends games at the new park but they say they liked the old stadium better. When they played at Engel, the team held all sorts of promotions to get people out to the ballpark. My family's favorite was 25 cent hot dog night. The one time we told the boys they could have as many as they wanted! A big crowd pleaser was "free car night". Yes, they actually gave away a car to some lucky person with the winning program number. The stadium was crowded on those nights. The car was an old clunker but it ran and that's what counts. And the price was right--free! Unfortunately, since they've moved to the new stadium there's no 25 cent hot dogs or free cars. If you'd like to read more about the Lookouts or the stadium go here.

Runaway truck ramp

Technically, this isn't Chattanooga but it's in the vicinity. We took a trip to Nashville recently to look at a university my son is hoping to attend and I took this picture on the drive back home. In order to get to Nashville you have to travel over Monteagle (the southern part of the Cumberloand plateau). The highway has a 6 percent grade and is a major trucking route. There are signs warning truckers and suggesting they keep their speed to 25 miles per hour. Just in case, they have several of these "runaway truck ramps".

Chattanooga Horse Carriages

I'm back from vacation! Thanks to Dutchie for updating my blog while I was gone. I see by the comments that everyone was interested in the carriage in the picture from the other day. Here is the best shot I have of it. You can check here for more information. Aside from being a fun tourist thing to do, people rent them for weddings. I'm not sure if the Dalmation belongs to the driver or is part of the carriage package.

Riverbend 2006

I took this picture of a billboard advertising Riverbend 2006. It's an annual music festival along the banks of the Tennessee River in downtown Chattanooga. Some of this year's acts will include Trisha Yearwood, Hank Williams Jr., Kenny Rogers and the Allman Brothers.

Tennessee Aquarium

I took this picture while in traffic in the downtown area. The building you can see straight ahead is the Tennessee Aquarium. The area around there is very nice and I'll post more pictures in the future.

June 1 Theme Day

This month's theme is "Parking rates in your city". I took this picture when we went for my son's high school graduation. The $5 flat rate is usually for event parking such as a baseball game, concert or in our case, a graduation.
