Fall at the farmer's market

The stands that sold fruits and vegetables all summer are now selling fall items such as pumpkins.

Wow Carol, do all the pumkins grow to that size? Pumpkins are a recent fashion for Hallow'een in the U.K. Supermarkets have only been selling them for the past two years. Previously we used turnips to carve our lanterns. Now we need to learn how to cook and eat pumpkin!

Farm stands like the one you show in your picture provide some of the best produce, I think, and encourage lots of trade during the season. I wonder if supermarkets order less produce in the summer months because of the competition.

I imagine you had to cook the turnip first before carving it out, didn't you Curly? Pumpkins have got to be easier to carve.

Curly -- those pumpkins really aren't that large. I will try to get a photo of some really big ones.

Annie -- that's a good question. These farm stands always seem to be busy.
